Macra Members from Seven Counties Recognised in Writing Competition

Macra is delighted to announce the winners of its National Creative Writing Competition, following the final which took place online on Friday, 23 January. 


Judges noted the exceptionally high standard of entries, making the task of selecting winners particularly challenging.


The competition showcased the depth of creative talent within the organisation, with strong participation from Macra members across the country in both poetry and short story categories.


The winners of the Poetry category are:
First place: Sylvester Phelan, Laois Macra, The Little Child is Dying
Second place: Karl Johnson, Meath Macra, Jigsaw
Third place: Colette Power, Kilkenny Macra, Rover

The winners of the Short Story category are:
First place: Colette Power, Kilkenny Macra, Harry
Second place: Laurie Curtis, Roscommon Macra, The Bodhisattva of Ballyglen
Joint third place: Niamh Feighery, Laois Macra, Moo-ving Hearts and Healing Hooves
Joint third place: Sinéad Kinsella, Wexford Macra, The Walk Home
